Special thanks to Ron Henkel for whacking weeds near the bird sanctuary.

“Obituary - Someone Else"

Our HOA was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work.
Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it."
Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group."
It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our HOA. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.
Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone  Else.
Now Someone Else is gone!
We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?
When you are asked to help this year, remember - we can't depend on Someone Else anymore.

Happy New Year from the Pinery Bird Sanctuary

Our project awaits the promise of spring! Bulbs have been planted, wildflower seeds sown, and dormant bushes have been put in the ground around our beautiful new sign. In June, more bugs will be put at the site to eat knapweed, although some clearing of the weed in the central part of the area will have to be done by us humans. We hope to have help with watering from Ponderosa High School students who need volunteer hours, and a couple of projects are in the works.

Keep an eye on this space for how you can become a part of this special activity in the Pinery.

And once again, Happy New Year!

Community Corner...

Pinery Storage Lot Pointers

Lost and Found – Boat?
Please...give us your license plate numbers!!!

An aluminum boat, Montana license number 6-E338, was left in a North Storage Lot space leased to another resident. Unfortunately, the boat is not properly identified by license number in a PHA lease so we have no way of knowing who to contact to move it to its correct location. If you are the owner; please call us as soon as possible!

Also, if you are unsure of whether or not we have license numbers for your stored vehicle(s), please send us an E-mail at ThePineryHOA@comcast.net or call 303-841-8572 with the information. Please include your name, space number, vehicle(s) and corresponding plates. In the future, we will be unable to lease spaces without full property documentation, including vehicle plate numbers.

Space Available – For Now: in all 3 lots.
We have leased a significant percentage of spaces in our new East storage lot. Lessees are enjoying the new automatic gate and dump station. As we turn toward spring 2003, we anticipate nearing capacity! If you’ve been thinking about leasing a space,

NEWS FROM THE WATER BOARD:
January / February 2003

In our last article, we talked about our current drought and water situation. Since then, additional information was sent to district residents via the December 2002 copy of the Pinery Pipeline. The information contained in these items provided much useful background as to just how the weather is impacting us and how we can better prepare for the coming spring and summer. The lack of snow fall and precipitation in the West as a whole is continuing to force many water providers to make some hard decisions about how much water will be available this upcoming year. While water may be flowing in the Cherry Creek Basin, we do not always have the right to use it under Colorado Water Law. We do have other water resources to meet the demands of customers, but this source is from deeper within the aquifer and is more expensive to produce to customers.

This is all factored into how we will prepare the District to meet the needs of consumers. Anything that each individual customer can do to help us minimize and balance out daily demands will help throughout the overall watering season. The District has Water Conservation Kits that can help identify and/or work to minimize high water use fixtures. The kits contain a low-flow shower head, toilet tank displacement bag, 1.5 gpm bathroom faucet aerator, kitchen faucet aerator, home water audit booklet, flow gauge bag and two toilet leak detection dye tablets. If you are interested in receiving a kit, call 303-841-2797, ext. 0 and leave your name with the receptionist. Please leave your name and address so that a kit can be delivered to you as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your part in helping us to conserve.

As always, you are cordially invited to attend any of our monthly meetings. These are held monthly, at the District Offices, the second Tuesday of every month, at 7 o’clock in the evenings. If this is not possible, then please stop by the District Office during the week, Monday through Friday, 8-4 daily, or give us a call at 303-841-2797. Someone is always available to meet with you and address your concerns.

Director

Talkin’ Trash

How to paint your trash truck blue:
by Tom Kimball , Pinery Homeowners’ Association

Several people have called requesting information on how to start up the PHA's trash and recycling services or to discontinue Waste Management or Parker Refuse services. Here are the essentials:

1. To discontinue your current trash and recycling service, (Waste Management, Parker Refuse Management) call them or refer to your contract to determine the last day of service to which you are committed.
2. Let them know that you want to begin trash and recycling with the PHA's trash and recycling service and ask them when they can first stop service.
3. Call the Pinery Homeowners' Association at 303.841.8572 and arrange for our trash and recycling service.
4. Drop by the PHA office in the lower level of the fire station to pick up your blue recycling bins.

Thanks very much for your support. See you at the Pinery Community's general meeting January 2003. Have a great New Year!

Sincerely,
Tom Kimball

Holiday Trash and Recycling

BFI will be observing the upcoming holidays. If your pick up day falls on, or after the holiday, your trash and recycling will be picked up one day late that week.

Christmas Tree Recycling
A friendly reminder, when you are ready to take down your Christmas tree, think about participating in a program to recycle the Christmas trees. You may be able to ask the county you live in, or maybe even the city if they have a drop off site for your Christmas trees this year. If you would rather not take it anywhere, just set it to the curb when you are done with it and BFI will pick it up on your regular pickup day. If the tree is longer than five feet in length please cut it in half.

Other holiday recycling ideas:

Foam Packaging Peanuts
REUSE foam peanuts when you need to ship a package, or gather them together in a large bag and take them to a local shipping store for reuse. Call ‘The Peanut Hotline” at 808-828-2214 to find participating stores in the area.
Cardboard Shipping Boxes
Reuse shipping boxes to ship gifts you give throughout the year. Flatten it for easy storage and reassemble when needed. If not reusable, take it to a recycling drop-off center to be recycled.
Holiday Cards
Consider purchasing cards made from recycled paper. Check the back to see if it was made from recycled paper. Buying recycled complete the “cycle” in recycle. Cards you receive may be sent to the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children where the children and staff make and sell new cards and crafts using the old card. Their address is: St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude St., Dept. MN, Boulder City, NV 89005-1618.
To find out more about this program or to buy cards from them, visit them online at: www.stjudesranch.org.

Happy New Year from the folks at BFI Waste Services of Denver!
