      If you are not in the Pinery Trash Program, you might want to consider joining with the over 1400 other participating homeowners. The program offers state of the art trash service for its participants that includes Single Stream Recycling. This provides you, the homeowner, with the opportunity to put the paper and other recyclables together into the same labeled container (we provide the labels) of your choice. They still must be separated from your regular household trash, but the recycling center now separates the paper from the bottles, cans, etc. You may choose to use a container with wheels and a lid for ease of handling.  No more lugging awkward and uncovered recycling bins to and fro or coming home to newspapers strewn all over the neighborhood from the wind.

       In addition, our program includes the pick up of one Large or Bulk Item every month. Just set the item out with your regular household trash and say goodbye. Restrictions are listed below for items regulated for this program.   That’s twelve times a year you can get rid of a sofa bed, mattress, chair or other item without additional charges. If you have more than one item in a month we offer low rates to get rid of them. Why not join your neighbors in the Pinery Trash Program. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose…but your trash.

 Beginning 4/1/08, the trash rate is $50.25/quarter, paid to the PHA, billed prior to each quarter. This equates to trash services as well as membership dues at a cost lower than trash pickup alone from some other companies! Call the PHA Office to sign up at (303) 841-8572. Trash Program Guide

Who is eligible for the program?

The Pinery Trash Program includes filings 1—8A & 8B, 11 and Misty Pines. (It does not include: the Timbers, High Prairie Farms, Pinery Pointe or the Pinery Townhomes.)

When will my trash and recyclables be collected?

   Trash / recycling service day is Tuesday for the southern portion of the Pinery and Thursday for the northern Pinery. To determine your trash service day, contact the Pinery HOA office at 303-841-8572 or ThePineryHOA@comcast.net. The pickup dates are also listed on the Calendar page.

    Trash is collected each service day and recyclables every other service day (except for the 6 Holidays listed below). Items must be at the curb by 7 a.m. Our trash program stipulates that Waste Advantage will pick up trash between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Pickup routes change from time to time for various reasons. Therefore, to ensure your trash is picked up on service day, it must be out no later than 7 a.m. Drivers make note of residences where trash is 'not out' when service is attempted and our contract does not allow for a return in that instance.

Weekly Unlimited Household Trash Collection

• Please bag your trash or place it in conventional 30 gallon containers.
• Containers or bags must not exceed 50 pounds in weight for driver safety.
• Contact Waste Advantage directly if you have move in, move out extra trash to arrange for a special pickup.
• If you live on a flag lot or your address is not obvious, you may want to put your address on your trash cans.
• Dried latex paint is okay, but not liquid paint. Dry your unused paint with clean kitty litter. Once dried, include kitty litter and empty paint can with the regular trash. Oil based paint should be disposed of as appropriate for hazardous waste.

 Unacceptable Household Waste Items

Oil, fuel, wet paint, insecticides, fertilizers, vehicle batteries, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, ammunition, fireworks, computer monitors and televisions are not accepted. Please recycle these materials or use household hazardous waste collection programs in your community. 

Yardwaste

• All yard waste must be bagged (grass, leave, branches) and any larger branches must be cut into four foot long, manageable, tied bundles (limit 10 containers, bags or bundles per week).

If you have more than 10 bags of yardwaste, call Waste Advantage, Inc. Customer Service at (303) 695-5436 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Mon-Fri for a special pick up.

 Single Stream Recycling

   The new single stream recycling program allows you to use a conventional can or recycle bins for your recyclable materials. You may purchase whatever is convenient for your use, but the containers should not exceed 30 gallons in capacity due to weight restrictions for materials. Please remember that paper, magazines, and glass are heavy materials. Recycle decals are provided by the PHA to be placed on your container to differentiate it from your regular household trash. Place them on the side of the trash can for easy visibility

   If you place plastic bags in your recycle container(s), please do not close the bag and fold the bag over the edge of the container so that the contents can be easily seen.

Waste Advantage recycles the following materials: 

• Newspapers and paper products: Newspapers, inserts  and junk mail, magazines, computer paper, white, colored and glossy paper, copy and typing paper, brochures and pamphlets, direct mail, posters, envelopes, post-it notes, adding machine tape, coated paper, manila folders, phonebooks, cardboard, brown paper bags (no plastic grocery bags) chipboard, cereal and shoe boxes! (Please remove newspapers from plastic bags.)
• Aluminum cans: Please rinse all cans.
• Steel & tin food cans: Leave the labels on but rinse them out.
• Glass bottles and jars: You may leave the labels on, but remove the lids, and rinse food containers. Do not include any window glass, drinking glasses, ceramics, pyrex, light bulbs or any glass that is not a bottle or jar.
• Plastic bottles #1 & #2: Most plastic soft drink, milk, juice, detergent and shampoo bottles can be recycled. Look for the recycling symbol with the #1 PETE or #2 HDPE on the bottom of the bottle. You may leave on any labels, but remove the lids.

     Any items not listed above are not presently accepted.

• Please do not recycle: any kind of plastic bags, pizza boxes, margarine containers, microwave containers/take-out food, etc. These items will go in the regular trash.
• Recycle motor oil and car batteries at most Checker Auto Parts and Pep Boys stores as they are not included in the program.
• To keep your name from being sold to junk mail lists write to Mail Preference Center, Direct Mail Association, PO Box 9008, Farmington, NY 11735-9008
• For hazardous waste, contact the Douglas County Chemical Roundup hotline at 303-846-6249.

 Large or Bulk Items

Waste Advantage should be contacted directly to make arrangements for large or bulk items.

       Large or bulk items in the PHA collection program are handled in the following manner: Each resident is entitled to one large or bulk item collected per calendar month at no additional charge.

       Additional large items that a resident wants collected at their home would be charged directly to the resident.

 See list below for eligible free pick up items and the cost for extra items. This generally includes furniture, kitchen appliances, washer and dryer.

 The items listed below are not eligible for free large item pick up:

 Unacceptable or hard to handle items including but not limited to the following:

• Waste Advantage cannot take anything with freon in it, for example, refrigerators, freezers, or air conditioning units.
• Dirt, rock, concrete, engine blocks, abandoned vehicles, or other major auto parts or auto components, liquids, oil, gasoline, paint, fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals, vehicle batteries, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, ammunition or fireworks.
• Use a tightly capped plastic detergent bottle to safely dispose of old needles, razor blades and sharp objects in your trash, but don't recycle the bottle!!!

Pinery Trash Program - Holidays

Moving or no longer require service.

   If you are moving or no longer require service, please notify our office immediately so that we get service and billing stopped promptly. The number to call is 303-841-8572.

Please put trash out by 7:00 a.m. on morning of collection!

   On windy days trash and recycling often blows and scatters while being emptied into the truck. Please help contain trash by bagging and tying your trash securely. Also, keep animals properly confined to help prevent trash from being released. Should you notice a trash truck pulling away from a stop with trash blowing, please call the PHA office with the location, time, and name of the trash company.  We will do our best to resolve problems.

90 - gallon totes

   If you are interested in a 90 - gallon tote for trash at an additional cost, please call the PHA office at 303-841-8572 or eMail us at ThePineryHOA@comcast.net and leave your name, phone number and address so we can get an idea of how many people actually would want one. Waste Advantage cannot economically offer this service unless there is enough interest.
