Public Utilities

Call Before You Dig.

Quoted From April 1998, "Update" - Public Service Company

Before you start your spring planting, landscaping or remodeling, make sure to call the Utility Notification Center of Colorado at 1-800-922-1987 before you dig, grade or excavate. The Utility Notification Center is a joint operation of about 800 different utilities around the state.

You must notify the Center two full working days (not including the day you call) before digging any hole, for any reason, to order the marking of member underground utilities. Once you call, field representatives will come out, at no cost to you, and mark the location of underground utilities such as natural gas, electric, telephone and TV cable facilities.

Once the Center marks the location of the underground utilities in your yard, you'll know to dig carefully within 18 inches on either side of the colored stakes or paint line.

What if you don't call?

You could hurt yourself. You could inconvenience and endanger a very large number of your neighbors, and you'd be breaking the law. Severing power or phone lines could - in an emergency - be a matter of life or death. Digging into a natural gas or electric line is dangerous and can cause serious injury. Digging without locates is against the law, and you can be held liable for any damage that occurs.

So, do yourself a big favor: Be careful, and call before you dig!
